Early today, staring bleary-eyed at my phone, I ran across a random tweet from an educator who shared the following:
@bkennedy81: New principal says I have to relate #tcea2013 to staar before she will decide if I can go...help! #tceaIt doesn't seem like an unreasonable request to correlate Conference Professional Learning opportunities to the latest high-stakes test like STAAR. Still, such requests leave me uneasy.
Lori Gracey (TCEA Executive Director) was kind enough to share a partial list of workshops that directly address STAAR. You'll have to decide whether these make the TCEA State Conference worth attending in February, 2013.
One opinion is that enhancing the skills and strategies educators have access to in a globally-connected world, a flat world where communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving must go beyond classroom walls is of value. And, that value extends beyond the short-term nature of a high-stakes test like the STAAR.
