Job Posting - Executive Director of Instructional Technology

Ft Worth ISD has posted an Executive Director of Instructional Technology, a vacancy caused by the retirement of dear friend, Karon Tarver. I met Karon years ago, and deepened the professional relationship when I had the opportunity to keynote at a district conference. As I see her leave the Texas Technology Directors scene, I wish her well.

General Summary:Under the direction of the CTO, the Executive Director of Educational Technology provides visionary leadership and hands-on management in the strategic adoption and use of educational technologies to provide educator professional development that is ongoing, standards-based and of high quality to inspire the development of life-long learners with 21st century competencies and skills.
Job Duties:1. Responsible for keeping abreast of emerging technologies and working with the Academic Leadership team in developing and implementing strategic academic technology missions and goals. 2. Responsible for implementing policies and procedures that reflect the mission and goals of FWISD. 3. Manages projects and initiatives, supervises the Education Technology and Library Media Department, and supports the use of educational technologies. 4. Plans and implements development programs related to use of technology in teaching and learning directs the creation of documentation and training to support academic technology; researches new and emerging instructional technologies and assists with the selection and implementation of appropriate technologies. 5. Provide leadership and strategic vision to learning technology, instructional technology, and media specialist staff. 6. Collaborate with all stakeholders to develop and implement e-learning strategy for the design, execution, implementation, and evaluation of all online and virtual educational activities, including Webinars, instructor-led courses, virtual conferences and online courses. 7. Implement appropriate instructional strategies for integrating technology into instruction. 8. Assess and identify instructional needs to identify the appropriate technology for instruction. 9. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement technology into instruction. 10. Disseminate information regarding instructional technology to all stakeholders. 11. Evaluate and reflect upon professional practices, emerging technologies, and current research to support student learning. 12. Develop and implement strategies to restructure library management program with emphasis on computing, multimedia and archival documentation. 13. Develop short and long range plans for the effective integration of computers and other technology into the instructional program to achieve district learning goals and in compliance with the currently adopted State Board of Education Long-Range Goals for Technology Plan for Technology. 14. Lead in the production and delivery of professional development activities incorporating the appropriate usage and integration strategies correlated to the Texas Technology Application TEKS and SBEC technology standards for administrators and teachers to systematically support Fort Worth ISD district curriculum. 15. Assists in the development of building-level plans for technology as appropriate. 16. Provides input into the curriculum development process as it relates to appropriate integration strategies and technologies to support district goals and student achievement. 17. Serves as a liaison to content area program directors to provide assistance in the seamless integration and use of technology. 18. Serve as the spokesperson for the district on topics related to the instructional use of technology. 19. Develops and maintains the program office budget and reports. 20. Serve as technology consultant on district committees as appointed by CTO 21. Performs all other job related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:1. Master's degree required with significant coursework in instructional technology. 2. Principal certification required. Doctorate preferred. 3. Ten years of public school experience, including teaching, supervision, and administrative experience.Instructional technology or related central office experience preferred. 4. Five years of experience in the use of technology in education or in related field, including training and supervising teachers for effective utilization of technology. 5. Experience in all technical aspects of computers as instructional tools. 6. Evidence of having worked productively and cooperatively with administrators, teachers, business and community groups.
