Technological Ornithology - Glimpses of the Google Street View Car

Picture I snapped with my Android phone on I-10 East on Sunday, 03/13/2011

It was a lot of fun on a drive up to Rice University this weekend to see a Google Street View car--which I hadn't seen before--speed by. I checked our speed as the car went by; I was going 70mph (legal in Texas). To be going as fast as the Google Street View car was going, he must have been going around 80mph or more. You can see the camera mounted on top of the vehicle and the license plate can easily be read.

Still, the goal isn't to catch traffic violators, but to realize a glimpse of a rare bird in the wild. It seems only fair to share this image in light of all the pictures snapped by Google Street View vehicles around the world....
