Press Release....

Borders Celebrates Educator Appreciation Week Oct. 6-10

Teachers Who Join the Borders Rewards Plus Program Will Receive a 25 Percent Discount Plus an Additional 10 Percent Off In-Store Purchases

Customers Can Donate Their Borders Bucks to an Educator and Borders Will Match the Donation During October

Ann Arbor, Mich., Oct. 1, 2010 —Borders is celebrating educators for their important work in advancing families and communities with Educator Appreciation Week (Oct. 6-10) in Borders stores nationwide. During the event, Borders is giving educators a 25 percent discount off the list price of most items in store and an additional 10 percent discount if they become Borders Rewards Plus loyalty members. The company also announced today that as part of its recently revamped Borders Rewards program, customers can now donate the Borders Bucks they’ve accrued to an educator — and Borders will match each donation during the month of October.

Members of the Rewards program accrue $5 in Borders Bucks for every $150 spent on qualifying purchases. Borders believes that donated Bucks, plus the donation matching, will have a positive impact on the availability of reading and scholastic materials in the classroom, as well as preparatory materials for instructors.

During Educator Appreciation Week, Borders will also provide a variety of activities for pre-school and K-12 current and retired teachers, professors, librarians and home schoolers. The activities, which vary by store, will include author signings, musical performances, raffles and more. The event also provides teachers with an opportunity to get a jump on holiday shopping or splurge on special items for themselves. The discounts can be combined on most items in the store — from books, music, movies, toys and classroom materials to coffee and stationery and gift items. Teachers can, of course, use the discounts on products in the Borders Teaching Zone section, which includes educational workbooks, curriculum development books, inspirational narratives as well as many non-book items such as stickers and classroom decor products.
