Upcoming STEM Summit in San Antonio

The Academy for Teacher Excellence was kind enough to invite me to participate in a STEM Summit that's coming up in May. I'm looking forward to participating with the apparently other 49 participants and engaging in thought-provoking conversations. I have my doubts as to the power of these conversations to effect change at the policy level, especially in light of cuts to NCLB Title 2, Part D Enhancing Education through Technology, but I believe in the power of such conversations to make a difference for the individuals participating. As such, I'm honored!

What are key issues in STEM from your perspective?

The Academy for Teacher Excellence, College of Education and Human Development, at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) requests your attendance to an “Invited Summit of 50” that includes university faculty, researchers, teachers, principals, students, and local, state and national representatives.
You are one of 50 guests invited to this important summit because of your expertise. Your perspective will enrich the discussion on changing the tide on the current educational gaps that exists among the Latino population, specifically in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Throughout the summit, we will engage as interdisciplinary teams in critical dialogue and analysis of STEM pedagogies and policies that impact Latino students’ success.
These thought-provoking discussions will culminate with the development and publication of a policy brief with specific recommendations/strategies to transform STEM teacher preparation and impact the success of Latino students. The policy brief will be widely disseminated to policy makers, presidents and deans of education in colleges and universities, and school districts’ superintendents.
