Federal Update

  • Draft of the National EdTech Plan has come out. http://www.ed.gov/technology/netp-2010
    • They really want feedback by early May
    • The NETP presents a model of 21st Century learning pwoered by tech with goals and recommendations in five essential areas:
      • Learning
      • Assessment
      • Teaching
      • Infrastructure
      • Productivity
  • Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
    • Shares policies and direction of document

    • Priorities in a Blueprint for Reform
      • College and Career-ready students
        • Raising standards for all students
        • Better assessments
        • a complete education
      • Great teachers and leaders in every school
        • Effective teachers and principals
        • Our best teachers and leaders where they are needed most
        • Strengthening teacher and leader prep and recruitment
      • Raise the bar and reward excellence
      • Promote innovation and continuous improvement
    • Cross-cutting priorities - relevant in numerous areas of education reform
      • Technology: Technollogy can improve how schools work, how teachers teach, and how students learn. Priority may be given to programs, projects, or strategies that leverage digital information or communications tech to accomplish stated goals of the grant.
      • Evidence
      • Efficiency
      • Supporting ELL and students with disability
      • Supporting Rural and other high need areas
  • NCLB Technology Report Sections 1 and 3 are being filled out by principals.
  • Make sure librarians are doing Teacher STaR Chart
  • $8-$9Million for EETT for Texas, so that funding will go out in competitive grants.
